Dr Barbara Harrell-Bond OBE

The trustees, employees, volunteers and beneficiaries of Asylum Justice would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of our patron Dr. Barbara Harrell-Bond OBE, who passed away on 11th July 2018.  Her dedication to the rights of refugees is reflected in the legacy she leaves behind. Founder of the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, Dr. Harrell-Bond went on the focus on the Global South, establishing several projects, programmes and networks including AMERA International, which was established to provide legal aid to refugees. In more recent years, Dr. Harrell-Bond established Rights in Exile to create a global hub for information on refugee legal aid. It is difficult to quantify the immense contribution made by Dr. Harrell-Bond to the rights of those seeking protection. All at Asylum Justice have been inspired by her and are honoured that she chose to be a patron of our charity. Her unwavering dedication and support for the rights of refugees and the provision of legal aid will be sorely missed.
